Cabo Pulmo National Marine Park, UNESCO

On the Sea of Cortez side of Baja California lies a marine protected area that represents one of the most impressive successes in ocean conservation, and was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2005. Surrounded by undeveloped desert and a stunning mountain range, the pristine beaches of Cabo Pulmo give way to a shallow bay that cradles one of three living reefs in North America. Through the tenacious efforts of the Cabo Pulmo community, the waters offshore Cabo Pulmo were designated a National Marine Park by the Mexican government.
